News sharing – ActiveX Controls Not Working?

Excel Tips - ActiveX control not working

IF you have no idea of what ActiveX Controls is or IF you don’t even have the Developer Tab on your ribbon, this post may not be relevant to your daily work with Excel; ELSE it is worth taking a look. 🙂

This morning, I came across MrExcel forum (my favorite Excel online resource) and noted that there is a Banner:

“Are you here because your ActiveX controls are no longer working? Read this: Form Controls stop working after December 2014 Updates

Although that was not the reason for my visit, I was curious enough to follow the link and see what is going on.  I am glad that I did as it provides very useful information.

In short, there are some unexpected errors after running MS Office Security Updates for December 2014, that affect normal usage of Form Controls.

Here’s the quick fix suggested:

“Perform a search on your hard disk for files that have the “.exd” file name extension and delete all the .exd files that you find.”

Just in case you do not know how to search on your hard disk…  On Windows Explore, Select your hard disk drive, Input “*.exd” in the search box on upper right.Excel Tips - ActiveX control not working 1

Thanks to MrExcel Forum again! 🙂
